Bluebell Forest
40x50 cm | Oil on canvas, 2025
I’ve always loved forests. But when I first saw the image of the Bluebell Forest in Belgium I had to paint it. In the scene, two trees stood close together, steady and calm amid the soft morning haze, and they evoke the sweetest feeling: the feeling of being understood, opposite of being alone, lonely in a crowd.
To deepen that sense of belonging and recognition, I painted the surrounding trees freely, different from the reference photo. They bend, they twist, they stretch their branches in different directions. The surrounding trees feel alive in their individuality, but also a little restless. As if searching, wandering, reaching...
But the two central figures remain steady, secure and grounded. Quiet in their closeness, not trying to be like others. Their closeness is intentional and intimate.
These two trees can be anything you need them to be: two romantic partners leaning into each other, or a family member who knows you to your core, a best friend who understands you, a beloved cat whose presence steadies you, or even your work. The thing that inspires you every day and fills you with energy. The meaning is yours to choose.
